Friends of ours recently lost their grandmother. As I've been praying for the family, and especially those who can't physically be part of the funeral service, I have once more returned to The Book of Common Prayer. After my own grandmother went to glory, I found myself drawn to these prayers:

Almight God, look with pity upon the sorrows of your servants for whom we pray. Remember them, Lord in mercy; nourish them with patience, comfort them with a sense of your goodness; lift up your countenance upon them; and give them peace; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

O God of peace, who hast taught us that in returning and rest we shall be saved, in quietness and in confidence shall be our strength: By the might of thy Spirit lift us, we pray thee, to thy presence, where we may be still and know that thou art God.
