All in a Day

Today is best described as "One of those days." For some reason, not yet explained I woke up this morning very emotional. David was half an hour late for work because he lovingly stayed to talk and calm me down. Then running late, I forgot to grab money for lunch (because I didn't have time to pack). My aid isn't here today so I'm both librarian and clerk, which just makes wrangling 6, 7, & 8 year olds slightly more challenging.

During my first class, I had a very... melodious student. I kept asking if he needed to use the restroom or felt okay, his reply, "I'm fine Mrs. R. We had chili last night. This always happens." So between gasping for breath and trying to stifle snickers (both from students and myself) I made it through the story. Then while reading to a 2nd grade class , I had a student pull a white granny night cap (picture Little Red Riding Hood's Grandma's cap) from out of her skirt. I immediately asked her what she was doing with it, and to please put it at her table so we could keep reading. She replied, "I'm sorry. I didn't know I had it." Now tell me, how can one not know they are packing an adult hat in their pants when wearing tights, a mini-skirt, and a turtle neck?

The scary part is I haven't had kindergarten....yet.
