Aha!

I seem to be having "aha" moments weekly. I realized this morning that I don't like teaching. Or at least as defined by our current education system. I don't like shoving, cramming, forcing information on students just because it's what a 2nd grader needs to know, or because the state or government dictates. What I enjoy is learning. Seeing kids make connections, read and learn about something they are interested in, experiencing learning rather than passively swallowing it. But that is not what education in my particular situation is. This little distinction is also why I didn't become an English teacher. Me and it didn't wholly match. I'm just too unconventional. I could blame my parents for homeschooling me or my father for being in experiential education. These have definitely had effects on my ideas and perspectives of how school, education, and learning are defined. Ultimately, it's just who I am and further indication that I will always be slightly off balance with society.

In other news...we are looking at a house tonight. Should be interesting.
