The original idea for this pattern came from Loop in Philadelphia. It was a free pattern off their website called Herringbone Neck Warmer. However, I miss read/misunderstood the directions and created an entirely new pattern myself.

I used Sheep Shop 1 yarn, color F101, size 11 needles. To replicate my oops version...

CO 30 sts.

Row 1: K1, sl1 purlwise, k1, wrap yarn around right needle then psso. Repeat to end.

Row 2: (WS) P2tog, without slipping off left needle, P first st. Slip both sts off needle. Repeat to end.

Repeat rows 1 and 2 to desired length or 28 inches. [Mine was actually 26 inches.] End with Row 2 and bind off all stitches.

Pick up 15 stitches along bind off, double yarn and k1 row.

Buttonhole row – K3, yarn over, k2tog, k5, k2tog, yarn over, k3. Knit 1 row. Bind off. Sew buttons on beginning side of scarf corresponding to buttonholes. Weave in ends.

I did the finishing identical to the Loop pattern.

It was a Christmas gift for my mother that I just recently photographed. Here is the finished product:
