Quote Quiz

Stealing from my dear friend's idea of a pop quiz I pulled some children's literature quotes that have been tumbling through my head. This could be because the end of a long year is drawing to a close and I am being reminded of why I love books! Try your hand at guessing who said these memorable lines. Hint the quotes come from children's books both old and new.

1. "Let the wild rumpus begin"

2. "'Jane,' she said, climbing down from the chair. 'Remember last year when I built that model wind tower for you and you wrote those poems for me?' 'And you said you'd never switch homework assignments with me again.' 'For good reason. My teacher had a hard time believing I wrote Tra-la the joy of tulips blooming, Ha-ha the thrill of bumblebees zooming. I'm alive and I dance, I'm alive though death is always looming. When I finally convinced her that I had, she asked me if I needed to talk to the school counselor.'"

3. "It's all very well to read about sorrows and imagine yourself living through them heroically, but it's not so nice when you really come to have them, is it?"

4. "One of the new things people began to find out in the last century was that thoughts--just mere thoughts--are as powerful as electric batteries--as good for one as sunlight is, or as bad for one as poison."

5. “And I do not plan to get married. Cigars, yes; husband, no.”

6. "By sticking out his tongue and curling it sideways to explore the hairy jungle around his mouth, he was always able to find a tasty morsel here and there to nibble on."
