Happy Birthday Pumpkin!

This was the weekend that our second baby, Pumpkin, would have been due. Pumpkin was conceived in the late fall and would have shared his birthday month with his Daddy and an uncle. We know that he is enjoying the rays of sunshine in heaven. Still, our hearts miss him. My short pregnancy with Pumpkin resulted in much salsa and chips, horrible heartburn, and general food indecisiveness.

As with Petunia, I made a blanket in honor of Pumpkin. Originally, I had wanted to do a modern log cabin from the lovely Mason & Dixon pattern book. However, I fell in love with some beautiful Aracunia Nature Cotton and chose to make a simple modular blanket with border. I think Pumpkin would have enjoyed the sunshine yellow, froggy green, and muddy brown. It just seems perfect for a little boy.

Despite the sorrow... for it has felt great in the past few weeks... I am taking comfort in Mark 10: 16 "And he took the children in his arms, put his hands on them and blessed them." The God of all creation has my children and they are safe. Fanny Crosby's hymn "Safe in the Arms of Jesus" never meant so much:

Safe in the arms of Jesus, safe on His gentle breast,
There by His love o’ershaded, sweetly my soul shall rest.
Hark! ’tis the voice of angels, borne in a song to me.
Over the fields of glory, over the jasper sea.

Safe in the arms of Jesus, safe on His gentle breast
There by His love o’ershaded, sweetly my soul shall rest.

Safe in the arms of Jesus, safe from corroding care,
Safe from the world’s temptations, sin cannot harm me there.
Free from the blight of sorrow, free from my doubts and fears;
Only a few more trials, only a few more tears!

Jesus, my heart’s dear Refuge, Jesus has died for me;
Firm on the Rock of Ages, ever my trust shall be.
Here let me wait with patience, wait till the night is over;
Wait till I see the morning break on the golden shore.

Safe in the arms of Jesus, safe on His gentle breast
There by His love o’ershaded, sweetly my soul shall rest.

Happy Birthday Pumpkin! Mommy and Daddy love you and are glad you and your sister are with Jesus.
