Behind Pickle's Name

About a month before Pickle was born I asked you all for name suggestions. You all came through with some awesome names. I thought I'd take a moment and explain why we chose the name that we did.

Caroline-- meaning: Free Man; feminization of Charles
David's middle name is Charles. It is a family name on both his mother and birth father's sides of the family. Not only does Caroline honor her Daddy, the meaning of the name also reflects the life verse we chose for her.

"If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free." ~ John 8: 31b-32

All through our pregnancy, we kept coming back to three words: peace, freedom, and truth. These words defined growth areas that David and I both experienced individually and as a couple. Little did we know that our littlest girl would be born so close to Independence Day (July 4) or that her first Sunday at church would be Freedom Sunday where we celebrate our freedom in Christ by baptizing believers! What a happy "coincidence".

Lavrack-- meaning: Family surname; cheerful, song maker, potentially related to the phrase "Happy as a Lark"
Lavrack honors David's birth father's family. Since David is the last to carry the Lavrack name on this branch of the family, we knew we wanted to use it, but weren't sure of the meaning. Honestly, we're still not 100% sure of the meaning, but from a the little research we did, we felt the name aptly described not just the family, but contained attributes we hope to encourage in our little one.  While family history has the Lavracks' immigrating from France in the 1600's, the name Lavrack was known in England in the 1100's. Who knows exactly where the name originally hails but we're so happy to be able to pass down this special family name.

Now we eagerly await the emerging personality of Pickle. It is our sincere desire that she know the truth and freedom that only Christ can give while valuing family and exhibiting a cheerful heart.
